The boy would be motivated by Chuluun's offer to teach him. That gave him some hope to actually make something of himself rather than be scrounging in the streets. He'd silently nod to Chuluun before he left and prepared himself to get walking again. He now had more things to think about, and also a new reason to go out by the walls and train again that isn't just, 'having fresh air to think'. He'd need to get a couple more sticks for the things he wanted to practice outside of class. The technique that saurian had over the dagger is something the ox wanted to replicate with his staff. The agility of his hand over one small weapon, Ziad was sure could be translated to two arms across a polearm, he just needed to start small and learn to do those dagger tricks first. Then his mind jumped to what the soldier had said after taking that dagger back. Something that caused him to turn around quickly with a furrowed and questioning brow, only to see the saurian had vanished into the crowd in the street. He'd turn back and have his eyes ensnared to the ground in thought as his mind bombarded itself with questions anew on his way back to school. Just who was Sir Chuluun in the eyes of Queen Samara for him to call her his mistress? How'd she even convince a Ysstmar to leave the Canyon for the House? Why was the soldier on a task to meet all of the other children of the Sands Embodied? No good answers arose within his young psyche. Nothing he could prove and very little in terms of theories he could consider plausible. He took a deep breath as he set a hand on the front door to the school house and let go of them, however. If he dwells on such topics and questions, they'll get in the way of his actual studies and even more so in his task to get stronger so that he might have a chance to be trained properly. The foreseeable future was something the ox knew would be busy, but he was happy to have something to work towards for the House that beyond merely, 'helping people'.

The young ox flinched when Chuluun pointed out he could be some murderous agent hiding in plain sight. To think such people could exist within the walls of Nirvana was something he’d have to seriously think about later and stay vigilant on, in case something like that does happen or reveal itself to be possible. This was the second time this idiot had humiliated himself in front of people associated with the house, something he was hoping that he wasn’t too keen on letting become a habit, but alas, this is the second time within what felt like a week. His own eyes dulled as he looked down at that cruel dagger and reached for the handle silently. He slowly and carefully lifted it from the saurian’s grasp, inspecting the murderous intent seemingly embedded into the craftsmanship of the blade. He could easily feel the weight of the dagger, but didn’t struggle. The reason behind his slow movements was so that he didn’t cut himself. Given how he handled his spar, he wasn’t too keen on trusting himself with a blade yet. He wanted to make sure that he could at least swing his bo staff around without knocking himself out with one end of the stick or another during a swing. “How many people’s blood has this blade tasted? I’m sure it could easily tear into a beast or animal, but they don’t exactly practice fighting the way soldiers or warriors do.” His voice seemed to audibly lack the sort of emotion he had before, that semblance of ease in his mannerisms had fallen away to the moss-haired stone golem that made up his appearance. He knew introductions were skipped, but felt it was likely better to wait for this soldier to ask for his name and then answer. He felt like trying to divert their attention to proper manners, giving introductions, and acting like friends was somewhat out of the window for right now. This man was his superior and Ziad knew that he should act as such.

Ziad would stare down at the wicked dagger, his mind darting to things he’s read in studies mostly fueled by his curiosity. How mere insects bore weapons that would tear people apart if they were the size of people, the form of the blade gave him an idea of the viciousness of combat this saurian must have seen to bear such a blade that could rip and tear. He nearly paled as he processed the new information that this soldier offered him in their conversation. His mother brought in a soldier that he could only consider terrifying should he be in a battle. Then his grip on his stone staff tightened and helped him to steady himself. “No sir, I’ve not had to brandish a deadly weapon like that. This staff is still something a bit new to me.” He’d lean in and speak low to the saurian in hopes that no stranger would hear him and be inclined to take a moment later to steal the polearm from him. “In truth, my mother found me about to spar with a kitsune not long ago, and gave us both one of these to use rather than the sticks we had.” He’d then sit back properly, take a sip from his waterskin and a deep breath before asking something of this strange soldier. “Can you teach me what you know of the earth? I want to be… at least able to fight when I get old enough to decide what I’ll do for the House. Knowledge will only get me so far in life, I’m sure. That, and I feel like that kitsune will put up more of a fight if she finds me again, so I kind of need to be ready if she decides to sneak up on me anytime soon.” He seemed to grow more relaxed as he spoke with the saurian, his stresses were no longer concerned by how scary he and his equipment looked, but remained on the idea of thieves or of Perna coming after him. The questions he kept asking himself were pushed aside, under the assumption that he’d likely find answers as he got older. There was no way he could just have a question never be answered for his entire life, right?

Ziad would flinch as he realized there was a large and armored figure right in front of him and snap out of that trance he called thinking. His eyes would dart around as the golem-esque bovinite checked to see if his sitting around had pulled the attention or concern of other adults along with the saurian. Upon finding no others seeming to care and calming down a bit, he’d take another bite of his loaf and calmly explain himself, “It’s nothing, sir. Just thinking about a strange day that I had. That, and about what I’m learning in my studies of earth magic.” A person to talk to was something the young ox welcomed internally. The last person he had to talk to casually was Perna and he was almost certain that she wasn’t going to follow or sneak up on him again after their last encounter. Though, a random stranger walking up to ask him was something that made him simply ponder more questions on top of the pile which his mind can’t seem to develop answers for. “Where did you get all that armor, sir? Are you in the city guard?” He’d ask out of curiosity, but a slight bit of anxiety began to snake its way up his spine. If this guy was on the city guard, then he probably saw him get scared by Perna. That still humiliated him, he was so lost in his own thoughts that a kid could just sneak up on him and have killed him if she wanted to. Given how she stabbed the ground next to him, it still freaked him out a bit. He needed to get better at observing his environment and not getting lost in his thoughts.
